What separates a genuine experience from an established fact? Why can a dream, memory, fear, inherited belief, religious conviction, or machine-generated answer feel true long before it has earned factual authority? In Reality, Consciousness, and the Fail-Closed Mind, Rayford Aquirre examines how human beings construct working models of the world from incomplete sensory evidence, memory, language, culture, bodily states, and expectation. These models make imagination, science, identity, morality, religion, and civilization possible - but they can also become dangerous when possibility is silently promoted into fact. Rejecting both naïve objectivism and radical subjectivism, Aquirre argues that subjective experience is real without making every interpretation true. Perception is constructed, but it remains constrained by a shared world capable of resisting, correcting, and defeating our models. Moving through philosophy of mind, neuroscience, cognitive science, comparative animal consciousness, childhood imagination, fear, artificial-intelligence hallucination, institutional knowledge, God, design, and first causes, the book develops a practical principle: Open generation. Closed authorization. Ideas, hypotheses, stories, spiritual possibilities, and imagined worlds may arise freely. But before a representation is permitted to enter the factual register - or govern consequential action - it must disclose its source, evidence, confidence, status, and path of correction. At the center of the book is the CLOSED protocol: a disciplined architecture for protecting imagination without allowing imagination to impersonate knowledge. This is not an argument for a closed mind. It is an argument for an open mind with a guarded gate.
